10 years and going August 11, 2010 Attention To Detail (Westlake Village, CA) I had this for over 13 years now and still one of my favorite coffee mugs. I have one other travel mug, that I received as a gift, but I am always grabbing this one. Easy to flip open with one hand. Every once in a while I get this drop of coffee on my nose like another reviewer noted. It is not 100% leak proof, coffee will spill if it falls. I use it while driving and also at home so it has been used a lot over the years. It has lost some insulation since my son decided to use it as a rock hammer :) Since then it doesn't keep my coffee as hot as it use to. My wife has gone thru at least 5 or 6 during same time period. She likes those fancy looking one's at coffee shops that cost about the same if not more. I am considering ordering another one of these.
I've used one of these for 20 years August 10, 2010 James Caron I got my first one of these mugs as a Christmas Present in 1989. I used it nearly everyday since, 20 years of trouble free service. Well after all this time, The seal is finally so worn on it that it leaks, so I ordered another one. This is by far the best insulated travel mug there is, once again the Thermos brand leads the way. Buy this mug and give it a little care and it'll last you a good long time.
A few tips:
Keep the seal clean. a Wet Q-tip swabbed around the seal every now and then will keep the seal free of crap and will keep it from failing. A couple of drops of bleach in the mug (keep dish soap out of the mug when doing this) filled with about half way with water will help clean the coffee stains and keep your coffee `tasting fresh. Rinse thoroughly and it will stay looking new.
Just par for a travel mug. July 30, 2010 J. Kent I bought this mug because it satisfied the basic requirements: cup holder friendly and insulated. This mug offers little beyond that.
The insulation keeps my coffee from burning my hands, but the top allows most of the heat from a hot cup of coffee to escape within an hour or two in room temperature air.
The flip top can be operated with one hand, but for people with medium to small sized hands (me) this can be a risky operation because the whole thumb is needed to hold it firmly, rather than just the palm and 4 fingers. When you drop this mug it is spill 'resistant' at best; it will still make a mess, just less than an open container would.
If you have big hands this mug might be worthwhile for the convenience, otherwise go with a mug that is watertight (there are tons of them out there).
keeps coffee hot July 13, 2010 Dee Shiclure (Cleveland, OH USA) This is great. It keeps my coffee warm enough to drink after 1.5 hours at the gym. I love it.
Reliable brand, excellent mug July 9, 2010 mauigirl I was looking for a travel mug that would keep my coffee hot through the morning, as I don't often get to drink it all right away. I've had luck with other Thermos products before, and spurred by the mostly positive reviews here, I got the Espresso-colored mug. I was worried that the lid would be leaky, as it only closes with a simple snap, but so far no leaks. As for my coffee, it stays hot for 4-5 hours, depending how often I open and close the lid -- not as long as the Livestrong By Chantal Stainless Steel Travel Mug -- but still, this works pretty well. Beverages stay at perfect drinking temperature for several hours. I also like how the mug feels in the hand -- the grip is soft and comfortable, and as a big plus, the mug fits nicely in my car's cup holder without worry it will tip over. My only gripe is that I wish this came in a 16-oz version -- the 14 oz is a little small for my coffee needs, yet the available 18 oz is definitely too much. Overall, worth the money.
